Unable to Locate Either CD Deluxe or CD Player Playlists in Windows Media Player (284971)

SYMPTOMS

Windows Media Player may not recognize playlists that you created by using either the CD Deluxe or the CD Player program.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Windows Media Player only recognizes playlists that are stored in the .asx file format.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, create new playlists by using Windows Media Player or the PowerToys Data Conversion tool in the Windows Media Player Bonus Pack. To download this tool, visit the following Microsoft Web site, and view "Windows Media Tools and Services":

Note The Data Conversion tool is only available in the Windows Media Player Bonus Pack for Windows Media Player 7.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

The CD Deluxe and CD Player programs are not included when you perform a clean (full) install of Windows XP, but these programs are preserved when you upgrade your computer to Windows XP. The CD Deluxe program is preserved when you upgrade your computer from Microsoft Windows 98 (with Plus! for Windows 98 installed) to Windows XP. The CD Player program is preserved when you upgrade your computer from Microsoft Windows 2000 to Windows XP.
