RESOLUTION
To resolve this error message, remove and reinstall the
program. To do this, follow these procedures in the order shown:
Rename the User.sbc File
A corrupted User.sbc file may be causing this error. Renaming the
file forces Picture It! to recreate a new one. To rename this file, follow
these steps:
- Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
- In the Named line, type
user.sbc.
- In the Look In line, select My Computer, and verify the Include Subfolders option is selected.
- Click Find Now.
- Right-click User.sbc, and then click Rename.
- Type user.old, and then press ENTER
to save the name.
- Exit the find program, and try Picture It!
again.
If the above steps do not work, continue to the next section.
Uninstall the Program
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
- Double-click the program you want to remove.
- Follow the instructions on the screen to uninstall the
program.
- If you are prompted to restart your computer, do not
restart at this time.
Remove Program Folders and Registry Keys
Download and run the Picture It! Publishing 2001 Utility to
Remove Program Folders and Registry Keys appropriate to your version of
Windows.

Microsoft scanned this file for viruses. Microsoft used the most current virus-detection software that was available on the date that the file was posted. The file is stored on security-enhanced servers that help to prevent any unauthorized changes to the file.
Important If you installed Picture It! Publishing that ships in the
Microsoft Works Suite 2000 or Microsoft Works Suite 2001 package, perform the
following steps to prevent a licensing agreement error message:
- Right-click Start, and then click Explore.
- Click to expand the Program Files folder.
- Click to expand the WorksBkUp folder.
- Click to select the Works Shared folder.
- On the Edit menu, click Copy.
- Click to expand the Common Files folder.
- Click to select the Microsoft Shared folder.
- On the Edit menu, click Paste.
- Click No to All to overwrite existing files and folders.
- Close Windows Explorer.
Copy the Redist Folder to the Desktop
Important:
- Use this procedure only if you are running Windows 95 or
Windows 98.
- If you are running Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition
(ME), skip to the "Clean Boot Your Computer" section of this
article.
- If you are running Windows 2000, download and install the
latest Service Pack, and then skip to the "Reinstall the Program" section of
this article.

Windows 95 or Windows 98- Insert the program installation disc into your CD-ROM or
DVD-ROM drive. Press and hold down the SHIFT key when you insert the disc to
prevent the program from starting automatically.
- Click Start, and then click Run.
- In the Open box, type <cd rom>:\PIP where <cd rom> is the drive letter of your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.
- Right-click the Redist folder, and then click Copy.
- Right-click an empty area on the desktop, and then click Paste.
NOTE: This procedure copies the contents of the Redist folder. This
folder contains the following folders:
IE
MDAC
DCOM
PLUS98 (You will not need this folder; you can delete it if you want.)
- Close the PIP dialog box.
Restart Windows in Safe Mode
- Click Start, and then click Shutdown.
- Select Restart, and then click OK.
- Do either of the following:
- If you are using Microsoft Windows 95, as soon as you
see the Starting Windows 95 message, press F5.
- If you are using Microsoft Windows 98, press and hold
down the SHIFT key as soon as the POST (Power on Self Test) has
completed.
- When Windows is finished starting, close the message about
Safe Mode.
Install DCOM (Windows 95 Only)
Note You must install DCOM95 before installing MDAC.
- On the desktop, double-click the Redist folder. Double-click DCOM.
- Double-click the Dcom95.exe file.
- Follow the prompts to install DCOM95.
- Restart the computer in Safe Mode.
Install MDAC
Note You must install DCOM95 before installing MDAC and restart
Windows in Safe Mode before performing this procedure.
- On the desktop, double-click the Redist folder. Double-click MDAC.
- Double-click the Mdac_typ.exe file.
- Follow the prompts to install MDAC.
- Restart the computer in Safe Mode.

Install Internet Explorer
Note Start your computer in Safe Mode before performing this
procedure.
- On the desktop, double-click the Redist folder. Double-click IE.
- Double-click the Ie5setup.exe file.
- Select I accept the agreement, and then click Next.
- Click Install Minimal, or customize your
browser, and then click Next.
- Locate the box in which Minimal is selected. Click Full. Click Next.
- If necessary, click Reinstall all components, and then click OK.
- Click Finish.
Clean Boot Your Computer
To clean boot your computer, use the appropriate method for your
version of Windows.

Windows 98 Run the System Configuration Utility (Msconfig.exe) to
perform a clean boot. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Start, and then click Run.
- In the Open box, type msconfig, and then click OK.
- Click the General tab. Click Selective Startup, and then click to clear the following check boxes:
- Process Config.sys File
- Process Autoexec.bat File
- Process Winstart.bat File (if available)
- Process Win.ini File
- Load Startup Group Items
- Click OK. When you are prompted to restart the computer, do so.

NOTE: To restore your original startup configuration, rerun the System
Configuration Utility (Msconfig.exe), click the
General tab, and then click
Normal Startup.
Windows 95- Restart the computer. When you see the "Starting Windows
95" message, press the F8 key. From the Startup menu, select Command Prompt Only.
- At the command prompt, type win, and
then press ENTER. Press and hold down the SHIFT key until the Windows startup
sequence is completed.
- Disable any anti-virus or disk tool programs that are
installed on the computer.

these programs, see the printed or online documentation for the
program. - Quit all running programs except Explorer and Systray. To
do this, press CTRL+ALT+DELETE, click the program that you want to quit, and
then click End Task.
If you receive a message stating that the program is
busy or not responding, click End Task again. - Repeat step 4 to quit all programs except Explorer and
Systray.

NOTE: To restore your original Startup options, restart the computer
normally, and then enable any anti-virus or disk tool programs installed on the
computer. For information about how to enable these programs, see the printed
or online documentation for the program.
Reinstall the Program
Insert the first disc into your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive. If Setup
starts automatically, follow the instructions on the screen to install the
program.
NOTE: Do not use Minimal installation options.
If Setup does
not start automatically, follow these steps:
- Click Start, and then click Run.
- In the Open box, type the following: where cd-rom is the drive letter of your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.
- Click OK.
- Follow the prompts on your screen.
Microsoft recommends that you use a "Typical" or "Full"
installation option to prevent usage issues after you install Greetings or
Picture It! If you use the "Minimal" installation option, the clip art may be
listed but represented by a standard icon rather than a thumbnail image. To
gain access to the clip art, right-click the standard icon and insert the
appropriate CD-ROM.
