SMS: Incorrect Result Set When You Are Using Outer Joins By Using WMI ODBC (284915)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows Management Instrumentation 1.5
- Microsoft Systems Management Server 2.0
This article was previously published under Q284915 SYMPTOMS
When you query Systems Management Server (SMS) by using outer joins that are using WMI ODBC (with Crystal Reports), only rows for which records in all tables exist are returned. When you view the result set, it appears that an inner join was used instead of an outer join. However, if you build the same query within the SMS Administrator console, it correctly returns the result set.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, use any of the following methods:
- Use the SMS Administrator console to run the report.
- Use the Query Extract tool from the BackOffice Resource Kit version 4.5.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in versions of the WMI ODBC adapter that are current as of October 2001.
