This article was previously published under Q284900 SYMPTOMS
If you have Microsoft Office XP installed on the same computer with Microsoft Office 2000, and you have Microsoft Word as your e-mail editor for Outlook 2002,the following error message may occur when you try to compose a new message:
This form requires Word as your e-mail editor, but Word is either busy, or cannot be found. The form will be opened in the Outlook editor instead.
CAUSE
This behavior may occur because Word does not function as your e-mail editor for Outlook 2002 when Office XP is installed on the same computer with Office 2000.
RESOLUTION
Microsoft does not recommend having Office 2000, and Office XP installed on the same computer. To resolve this behavior, uninstall both Office XP and Office 2000, and then only reinstall Office XP. Outlook should function correctly after you reinstall Office XP.
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, disable Word as your e-mail editor in Outlook 2002. To do this:
- Start Outlook.
- On the Tools menu, click Options.
- On the Mail Format tab, click to clear both the Use Microsoft Word to Edit E-Mail Messages check box and the Use Microsoft Word to Read Rich Text E-Mail Messages check box.
- Click Apply, and then clickOK.
