WD2002: Speech Is Selected Even Though Microphone Wizard Did Not Work (284899)

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Close the Language Bar

You can temporarily close the Language bar until you have installed a microphone. To close the Language bar, right-click the Language bar, and then click Close the Language bar on the shortcut menu that appears.

NOTE: To use the Language bar later, click Show the Language bar on the desktop in the Language Bar Settings dialog box, which you can find in the Text Services tool in Control Panel.

Method 2: Rerun the Microphone Wizard

Once you have installed a microphone, run the Microphone Wizard again. To do this, follow these steps:

1. In Control Panel, click Text Services.
2. In the Text Services dialog box, click Voice Recognition, and then click Properties.
3. In the Speech Properties dialog box, click Configure Microphone.
4. Follow the instructions in the Microphone Wizard - Welcome dialog box.

Method 3: Remove Speech Recognition

You can temporarily remove speech recognition until you have installed a microphone. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
3. Double-click the icon for your Office installation.
4. In the Microsoft Office Maintenance Mode dialog box, click Add or Remove Features, and then click Next.
5. Expand Office Shared Features, expand Alternative User Input, and then click the icon next to Speech.
6. Click Not Available, and then click Update.

NOTE: To reinstall speech recognition once you have correctly installed a microphone, start Word, and on the Tools menu, click Speech.
