SYMPTOMS

When you use the Yamaha AP-U70 Universal Serial Bus (USB) amplifier in 6-channel mode in Windows Millennium Edition (Me), extraneous noise may be played when you attempt to play sounds.

CAUSE

Windows may attempt to transfer data to the Universal Host Controller Interface (UHCI) hardware on non-physically contiguous memory pages, which it cannot properly deal with.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
