SYMPTOMS

When you install Microsoft Office XP and you attempt to select a custom installation option, neither Run from CD nor Run all from CD appears as an installation option for any Office program or any feature in the Office feature tree.

This behavior is different from that of Microsoft Office 2000.

CAUSE

By design, the Run from CD installation option that is available in earlier versions of Office is not available in Office XP. You cannot run Office XP from the CD-ROM because the layout of the Office installation CD-ROM is changed and the executable files are not directly accessible from the CD-ROM.

MORE INFORMATION

The Media Content CD-ROM can be installed by using the Run from CD installation option. To install Media Content in the "Run from CD" installation mode, follow the steps appropriate for your operating system.

Microsoft Windows 98 or Microsoft Windows NT 4.0

  1. Insert the Media Content CD-ROM.
  2. When the Media Content Setup dialog box appears, click Install Now, and then click Install.

The Media Content CD-ROM proceeds through the installation process, and Run from CD is not an available option because the feature tree is not available.
