The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 2002

This article was previously published under Q284426

SYMPTOMS

When you try to configure the downloading of the Offline Address Book by using the Send/Receive group feature in Outlook 2002, you may receive the following error message:
You must configure an offline folder file before you can use this folder offline. Would you like to configure an offline folder file now

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior and download the Offline Address Book as part of a Send/Receive group, create and configure an offline store (.ost) file. To manually do this, on the Tools menu, point to Send/Receive, and then click Download Address Book.

MORE INFORMATION

Some users prefer to use a Personal Folders (.pst) file as their default delivery location. If you synchronize or update the Offline Address Book while you are connected to the Microsoft Exchange Server, you can select recipients from the Global Address List (GAL) while you work offline.
