SYMPTOMS

When you start Outlook to work offline and you send mail by using the Remote Access Service (RAS) connect on send option, the progress indicator that appears with the Verifying Username and Password box may incorrectly indicate a very long time remaining.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

The progress indicator that appears during user authentication may show approximately 20 minutes remaining, and this value may rapidly increase to show several hours remaining. After you log in, the indicator displays the correct amount of time remaining, usually 1 or 2 minutes.
