  • Microsoft Outlook 2002

This article was previously published under Q284396

SYMPTOMS

When you open an Outlook 2002 folder, such as the Inbox, in a new window and then try to close either the Outlook window or the Inbox-Outlook window by using the Exit command on the File menu, the Outlook program quits.

When you restart Outlook, all Outlook windows that were previously closed may open when the program starts.

CAUSE

The File menu Exit command is designed to close the entire program. The Close button (the X in the upper right corner of each window) is designed to close the individual window. When more than one Outlook window is open, the Close button acts only on the active window.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, click the Close button to close each Outlook window without quitting the Outlook program.
