OL2002: Cannot Send Link in E-mail from Internet Explorer (284334)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to send a link by e-mail in Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01, you may receive the following error message:
The action could not be completed
This behavior occurs on a computer that is running Outlook 2002, Windows NT Server 4.0, and Exchange Server 5.5.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur because the Exchange Server Setup program replaces some of the Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) files that exist in the C:\Windows\System32 folder. Simple MAPI is using the files from the C:\Windows\System32 folder rather than the files in the Program Files\Common Files\System\Mapi\1033 folder. Exchange Server 5.5 and Outlook 2002 should not exist on the same computer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
