SYMPTOMS
If you use the Microsoft Windows Policy editor to disable the Favorites menu, it only disables it in Microsoft Internet Explorer and it does not disable it in Outlook 2002.
WORKAROUNDWARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may
require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve
problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own
risk.
To work around this problem, add a registry key to disable the Favorites menu in Outlook 2002. To do this:
- Click Start, and then click Run
- In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
- Locate the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer - In the right pane, you will see the following entry:
NoDriveTypeAutoRun =dword:00000095
- Right-click below this entry, and then click DWORDValue.
- Type NoFavoritesMenu to replace New Value #1, and then press ENTER.
- Double-click this new entry to open the Edit DWord Value dialog box.
- In the Value Data box, type 1.
- Click OK, and then exit the Registry Editor.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. MORE INFORMATION
Even though Internet Explorer and Outlook share the Favorites menu, the Windows Policy only affects the Internet Explorer.
