SUMMARY

Outlook 2002 has implemented new restrictions on how users can disable or toggle folder home page views. These changes are designed primarily for developers of folder home pages or digital dashboards who do not want users to be able to easily view the Outlook items that are stored in the folder. Depending on the design of the solution, the folder may contain meaningless or sensitive data that should not be viewable by users of a folder-based solution.

The following changes have been implemented in Outlook 2002:
  • The Show/Hide Folder Home Page command has been removed from the View menu. In addition, the Show/Hide Folder Home Page command has been removed from the list of available commands that you can add to the menus or toolbars. This means there is no way to create a menu or toolbar command to re-enable this functionality.
  • In a public folder, you must have Owner permissions to be able to disable the folder home page for other users.
to disable a folder home page, right-click the folder, click Properties, click the Home Page tab, and then enable or disable the home page by using the settings on that tab.

In a public folder, users with less than Owner-level permissions can toggle the folder home page setting, but it only affects their view of the folder. You must have Owner permissions on the folder to change the default settings for all users.
