This article was previously published under Q284320

SYMPTOMS

When you receive a Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) message that contains Arabic or Hebrew text that has been sent by using a different encoding format, such as Western European (ISO), the text displays as a series of question marks (???????) in AutoPreview.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because AutoPreview is designed to use the code page of the message to view its contents.

WORKAROUND

To view the message correctly, open the message. The code page translation runs and the text displays correctly.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
