PRJ2000: You Are Prompted for CD Key When You Install Microsoft Project Central from MSDN Subscription CD (284203)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Project 2000

This article was previously published under Q284203

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to install Microsoft Project Central, you are prompted to enter a CD key, but the CD key has not been provided.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if you obtained the installation CD from the Microsoft MSDN Subscription Center.

An MSDN subscriber copy of Microsoft Project Central may not have the CD key fields filled in, and MSDN does not provide a CD key with subscriber copies of Microsoft Project Central because a CD key is not required.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Start the Microsoft Project Central Server installation CD.
  2. When the Microsoft Project Central Server User Information dialog box appears, enter your name and organization, and then place the insertion point in the first cell of the CD key.
  3. Press TAB repeatedly to tab through all of the CD key cells, until the Next button becomes available at the bottom of the dialog box.

NOTE: Do not type anything in the CD key cells.
  4. Click Next, and then follow the instructions of the Installation wizard to finish installing Microsoft Project Central.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
