PRB: SMTP Message Size Limitation Does Not Work for E-Mail Messages Sent by MCIS HMI (284118)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Commercial Internet System 2.0
- Microsoft Commercial Internet System 2.5
This article was previously published under Q284118 SYMPTOMS
E-mail messages that are sent with the Microsoft Commercial Internet System (MCIS) HTML Mail Interface (HMI) cannot be limited by the SMTP message size limitation (Metabase Key: MaxMessageSize).
CAUSE
The HMI creates the message EML file and places this EML file directly into the Pickup folder of the SMTP service. The size of the e-mail messages that are sent with this method is not checked.
RESOLUTION
To limit the message size, you need a second SMTP host to which you have to relay the dropped messages. In this SMTP service, you can successfully set a message size limitation because this service does not receive e-mail messages through the Pickup folder.
STATUS
This behavior is by design.
