SUMMARY

This article describes the amount of the disk space that must be available when an administrator performs catalog propagation.

MORE INFORMATION

Before propagating a catalog, the administrator must ensure that there is enough disk space available on the destination server. The destination server must have free space that equals the size of the catalog, as well as additional working space. The administrator must have this additional working space to bring the catalog online after the catalog is copied. The working space that the administrator must have varies and depends on the size of the catalog. Typically, the recommended minimum working space is the catalog size plus 50 megabytes (MB) of working space.

If there is insufficient disk space to copy the catalog, an error message is logged in the Application event log on the dedicated content indexer server. If the copy is successful, but there is insufficient working space to accept the catalog, propagation will fail. Because the copy was successful, an informational message is logged in the Application event log (event ID 7016), on the dedicated content indexer server Application event log, that states that propagation was successful. An error message is logged only on the destination server. Therefore, the administrator should check the Application event log on the destination server to ensure the catalog was accepted. If the catalog is successfully brought online, an informational message is logged in the Application event log (event ID 7029) on the destination server.
