With system services, an administrator can define the start-up mode (manual, automatic, disabled) and the access permissions (for example, Start, Stop, Pause) for all system services.

To add third party-services to the group policy, follow these steps.

Follow these steps on a Windows 2000-based member server or on a Windows 2000 Professional-based computer where the services are located.
  1. Log on as a domain administrator.
  2. Install the Adminpak.msi, which is located in the %Windir%\System32 folder on a Windows 2000 Server-based computer.
  3. Start the Active Directory Users and Computers or Active Directory Sites and Services if you choose a site policy.
  4. Select either the organizational unit (OU), the domain name, or the site, depending on where you want to put the policy.
  5. Right-click, and then click Properties.
  6. Click the Group policy tab, and then click the policy that you want. Click Edit, or create a new policy if one does not exist.

    In the Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\System Services folder, the third-party services that are installed on the computer are on the list.
  7. Choose the service, and then turn on the service and configure it or delegate rights as needed.
NOTE: The System Services folder is available only in Group Policy objects associated with domains, OUs, and sites. The System Services folder does not appear in the Local Computer Policy object.
