This article was previously published under Q283867 SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Project, you may find that the following menu commands are missing. - On the Workgroup submenu of the Tools menu, the Update Project to Web Server command is missing.
- On the Project menu, the following submenus are missing:
- On the View menu, the Network Diagram command is missing.
- On the File menu, one of the following may occur:
- The Save As Web page command is missing.
-or-
- The Save As HTML appears instead of the Save As Web page command.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if Microsoft Project 2000 is using the Global.mpt file from an earlier version of Microsoft Project.
Microsoft Project 2000 may use the incorrect version of Global.mpt if Microsoft Project 98 is installed on the same computer as Microsoft Project 2000, and you install Microsoft Project 98 after you install Microsoft Project 2000.
NOTE: Microsoft recommends that you not install Microsoft Project 98 and Microsoft Project 2000 on the same computer.
WORKAROUND
To resolve this issue, you must rename all instances of Global.mpt, and then restore the Microsoft Project 2000 version of Global.mpt. To do this, follow these steps:
- Quit Microsoft Project.
- Click Start. In Microsoft Windows 98 and Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, point to Find. In Microsoft Windows 2000 and Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me), point to Search. Click Files or Folders.
NOTE: On the Tools menu, you need to have your Folder Options/Views set to "Show Hidden Files and Folders". - Type Global.mpt in the Named box or in the Search for files or folders named box.
- In the Look in box, select your local hard drive, and then click Find Now or Search Now.
NOTE: In the Search Results window, if you see only "Global" and not "Global.mpt," change the folder options to allow file extensions to be shown. - Right-click each instance of Global.mpt that is found, click Rename on the shortcut menu, and then type OldGlobal.mpt.
- Close the Find or Search Results dialog box.
- Insert your Microsoft Project 2000 CD in the CD-ROM drive.
- Start Microsoft Project 2000 by using the shortcut on the Programs menu.
NOTE: Only the default shortcut will work; a manually created shortcut will not start the Windows Installer.
The Windows Installer starts and Microsoft Project 2000 restores the correct version of the Global.mpt file.
