SYMPTOMS

When you use a universal serial bus (USB) keyboard and you press the F8 key during Startup, you may not be able to access the Windows Advanced Options menu. Also, you may be unable to select different options in the Boot menu.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you do not have the USB Keyboard Support feature enabled in the basic input/output system (BIOS).

RESOLUTION

WARNING: If you edit the BIOS settings incorrectly, your settings can cause serious problems, which can damage your computer. Microsoft does not guarantee that any problems that are caused by the improper edit of any of the BIOS settings can be solved. Configure the BIOS at your own risk.

To resolve this behavior, you must enable the USB Keyboard Support feature in the BIOS.

NOTE: If your BIOS does not support a USB keyboard at Startup, either use a PS/2 adapter to connect the USB keyboard or use a PS/2 keyboard.

MORE INFORMATION

The USB keyboard works properly after the logon screen is displayed.
