Disk Quota Is Reached but No Warning Message Appears (283437)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition

This article was previously published under Q283437

SYMPTOMS

On an Apple Macintosh computer, when you connect to a shared folder on a Windows Server 2003-based computer, you may find that disk quotas are not being enforced. If you attempt to copy files or folders into the share, you may not receive a limit warning message even though you have enabled quotas, limited disk space, and set warning levels.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

In some instances, the "missing" warning may be only delayed. The Quota option sets a default "warning" level for new quota records that are added to the volume. If both the warning level and the Log event when user exceeds warning level options are set, an entry is periodically written to the event log of the server that is hosting the volume, to indicate that the user has exceeded the quota warning level. However, this event log entry does not necessarily appear right away when the user exceeds the quota. The entry may not be created for 10 minutes or more.
