CREATOR OWNER Permission Does Not Appear in Folder or File Where It Was Assigned (283391)

SYMPTOMS

After you create a CREATOR OWNER permission on the Effective Permission tab for a file or folder that is located in the main root folder of an NTFS file system drive, the security takes effect only in the main root folder. The folder or file where you originally assigned the permission does not show the CREATOR OWNER permission.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the permissions for CREATOR OWNER that appear in the main root folder apply to all of the folders that are in the main root folder.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
