Office 2000 Shortcuts Do Not Have the "Pin to Start Menu" Command (283293)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
  • Microsoft Windows XP Professional
  • Microsoft Windows Advanced Server, Limited Edition

This article was previously published under Q283293

SYMPTOMS

Microsoft Office 2000 shortcuts that appear in the Start menu do not have the Pin to Start Menu command in the shortcut menu.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the shortcuts that are installed by Office 2000 do not point directly to the .exe file for the program. Instead, they go to Windows Installer, which then resolves the path of the shortcut.

RESOLUTION

To pin an Office 2000 shortcut to the Start menu, use a drag-and-drop operation to move it to the Start menu.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

The shortcut menu is the name of the menu that appears when you right-click an object.

Only .exe files and shortcuts to .exe files have the Pin to Start Menu command in the shortcut menu. For additional information about how to create these types of shortcuts for Office 2000, click the article number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
