Terminal Services and Outlook 2000 As "Default Manager" (283272)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition
This article was previously published under Q283272 SYMPTOMS When you start Microsoft Outlook 2000 from within a
Terminal Services session, you may receive the following error message:
Outlook is not currently your default manager for Mail,
News, Calendar, and Contacts. Would you like to register Outlook as the default
manager? This message appears each time you start Outlook 2000, even
after you click Yes. CAUSE This problem occurs if you selected Full Security for the Permission Compatibility setting during the Windows Server 2003 installation (after you
selected Terminal Server). When you use Full Security, typical users do not have sufficient rights to modify the
necessary values under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE registry key in order to set the
default values for Microsoft Outlook. Note: You can check your current security settings by following these
steps:
- Click Start, click Programs, click Administrative Tools, and then click Terminal Services Configuration.
- Click Server Settings.
- Check the value of Permission Compatibility, which you can set to Full Security, or Relaxed Security.
RESOLUTION To resolve this problem, log on to the computer that is
running Terminal Services as an administrator before any other user does so,
and then configure Outlook. After you start Outlook, click Yes (if you want to) when you are prompted with the message in the
"Symptoms" section of this article. This setting is not per user, so all users
can now register Outlook as their default manager for Mail, News, Calendar, and
Contacts. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
