SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to connect to an Internet Messaging Access Protocol (IMAP) server to check e-mail, you receive the following error message:
Could not retrieve mail from the account "<Account Name>"
The file name is already in use.
Error: -3216

CAUSE

One or more components of the Macintosh Operating System (OS) networking technology Open Transport is damaged.

RESOLUTION

Remove and reinstall the following Open Transport support files:
  • Open Transport
  • Open Transport ASLM Modules

MORE INFORMATION

To resolve the error described in the "Symptoms" section, you must replace the core Open Transport support files. These files may be found in the following path:

drive:System Folder:Extensions

NOTE:The following steps apply to Macintosh OS 9.x.
  1. Locate the two Open Transport support files named in the "Resolution" section.
  2. Drag the files to the Macintosh Trash.
  3. Insert the Macintosh Operating System CD. The two files to be replaced are located in the same path on the CD.
  4. Drag the files from the Extensions folder on the CD to the Extensions folder on the Macintosh hard drive.
  5. Restart the Macintosh, and then start Entourage to test the connection to the IMAP server.
