This article was previously published under Q283232 SYMPTOMS
If a Web server returns a Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (MIME) type that is unknown or that is not associated with Internet Explorer, two GET or POST requests are issued to the server. This may cause two Unhandled File type dialog boxes to appear, or the Web page may not work correctly.
CAUSE
When the result of a GET or POST request is processed, Internet Explorer first looks at the MIME type that is returned in the HTTP header. If the MIME type is not recognized by Internet Explorer or if the program is external to Internet Explorer, the response to the first GET or POST request is discarded and a second GET or POST request is initiated.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, contact the administrator of the Web site to report the problem. Web site administrators may be able to code a workaround for this issue.
MORE INFORMATIONMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
