ENT2001: Error Message: The File Name Is Already In Use -3216 (283229)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to connect to an Internet Messaging Access Protocol (IMAP) server to check your messages, you receive the following error message:
Could not retrieve mail from the account "<Account Name>"
The file name is already in use.
Error: -3216

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because one or more components of the Macintosh Operating System (Mac OS) networking technology, Open Transport, are damaged.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, remove and re-install the following Open Transport support files:
  • Open Transport
  • Open Transport ASLM Modules
These files may be found in the following path:

<Hard Drive>:System Folder:Extensions

Use the following steps to replace the core Open Transport support files:

NOTE:The steps listed below apply to Mac OS 9.x.
  1. Locate the Open Transport and the Open Transport ASLM Modules files.
  2. Drag the files to the Macintosh Trash.
  3. Insert the Macintosh Operating System CD-ROM. The two files that you are replacing are located in the same path on the CD-ROM.
  4. Drag the files from the Extensions folder on the CD-ROM to the Extensions folder on your Macintosh hard disk.
  5. Restart your computer and then start Entourage to test the connection to the IMAP server.
