ENT2001: Error Type 2 Appears When You Start Entourage, Internet Explorer, or Outlook Express (283216)

SYMPTOMS

When you start Entourage 2001, Internet Explorer, or Outlook Express, the SplashScreen appears, and then the following error message appears:
The application "Microsoft Entourage" has unexpectedly quit, because an error of type 2 occurred.

You should save your work in other open applications and restart the computer.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur when the Internet Preferences file is damaged.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use the following steps to create new Internet settings. A new Internet Preference will be created when one of the products listed above is launched.

WARNING: Removing the Internet Preference will remove settings available in the Internet Control Panel. Before starting the steps listed below it is strongly recommended that you verify the settings listed in the Internet Control Panel. If it is not possible to retrieve these settings, you can contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) for this information.
  1. Locate the Internet Preferences file in the following path:

    Hard Drive:System Folder:Preferences
  2. Drag the Internet Preferences file to Trash.
  3. On the Apple menu, click Control Panels, and then click Internet.
  4. Re-enter the settings for all Internet connectivity options that apply. A new Internet Preferences file is created when you close the Internet Control Panel.
