Multimedia Files on Your Hard Disk May Move to Another Folder and May Be Renamed (283109)

SYMPTOMS

You may discover that multimedia files on your hard disk are missing from their original location and the files may be renamed with "change atleast now to LINUX" in the file name extension. You may also discover that e-mail messages that you send contain an attachment named Creative.exe when the messages are received; however, you did not send the Creative.exe attachment with the message.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if your computer is infected with the W32/ProLin@MM virus, also known as TROJ_SHOCKWAVE.A, CREATIVE, TROJ_PROLIN.A, Creative.exe, I-Worm.Creative, Prolin-Shockwave, TROJ_SHOCKWAVE, and W32.Prolin.

RESOLUTION

If you suspect that your computer is infected with a virus, you should obtain current antivirus software from a vendor who is commercially involved in virus detection and removal to resolve this issue.
