WIA: Options Unavailable When Multiple Instances of WIA Device Properties Are Open (282985)

SYMPTOMS

If you open more than one instance of a device's properties when the device is displayed in more than one namespace, when you click a button in one instance of the properties dialog box, the same button is unavailable in the other open properties dialog box. For example, if you use both Control Panel and My Computer to open the scanner's properties, if you click Test Scanner or Camera in one properties dialog box, the same button is unavailable in the other properties dialog box.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because Windows XP locks the device that you are testing; therefore, only one test can be performed at one time.

RESOLUTION

To work around this, close the properties dialog boxes, and then reopen them.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
