This article was previously published under Q282957 SYMPTOMS On a Windows 2000-based client, you may receive the
following error message when you attempt to rename a folder that is located on
a Macintosh AppleShare file server: Error Renaming File
or Folder Cannot rename Folder Name: Cannot
find the specified file. Make sure you specify the correct path and
filename. CAUSE This behavior can occur because Windows 2000 sends a server
message block (SMB) open command when it renames objects, which is not
supported by the Macintosh operating system without an AppleShare Internet
Protocol (IP) update. RESOLUTION To resolve this behavior, obtain the AppleShare IP update
from the following Apple Computer Web site: Microsoft

closely than Windows NT 4.0. When you attempt to rename a folder, Windows 2000
attempts to open the folder object. The Macintosh operating system does not not
support this type of folder operation, so the rename procedure is
unsuccessful.
