Winsock Shutdown Can Increase CPU Usage to 100 Percent (282865)

SYMPTOMS

The Notes Admin client software monitors hundreds of Domino servers. The client can have several threads running with active connections. 100 percent CPU kernel usage can occur with shutdown and connect calls.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur when multiple threads are making kernel block RemoveIoCompletion and socket shutdown calls, result in a deadlock.

RESOLUTION

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 3.
