Windows 2000 RAS Error 734 with a Bianca/Brick-XS Multiple-Protocol Router (282795)

SYMPTOMS

A Windows 2000 Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) dial-up connection to a BinTec Bianca/Brick-XS multiple-protocol router may disconnect, and you receive the following error message:
error 734: The PPP link control protocol terminated

Description: A PPP link control conversation started, but terminated at the request of the remote computer. An error occurred on the server. See your system administrator. Also, your system administrator can enable PPP logging by using the Netsh.exe utility, which may help to identify the PPP negotiation problem.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the callback functionality on the BinTec Bianca/Brick-XS multiprotocol router is enabled.

RESOLUTION

BinTec is aware of this problem, and provides the system software release 5.2 revision 1 to allow a PPP callback connection between the multiprotocol router, and Windows 2000.
