WD2002: Error Message When You Open MRU File That Was Saved to Disk (282575)

SYMPTOMS

When you click a file that is listed in the Most Recently Used (MRU) list (on the File menu) and that was saved on a disk, and no disk is inserted in the disk drive, you receive the following error message:
The document name or path is not valid. Try these suggestions.
* Check the file permissions for the document or drive.
* Use the File Open dialog box to locate the document.
(path\filename)

WORKAROUND

To prevent this problem, do one of the following:
  • Insert the appropriate disk into the disk drive before you select the file listed in the Most Recently Used list on the File menu.

    -or-
  • Do not open a Word document listed in the Most Recently Used (MRU) list that resides on a disk. Instead, click Open on the File menu, and change the Look in box to the disk drive.

    NOTE: If you do not have a disk in the disk drive when you change the Look in box to the A:\ drive, you receive the following error message:
    The selected disk drive is not in use. Check to make sure a disk is inserted.
