This article was previously published under Q282565 SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Word 2002, you may not be able to read either the comments in markup balloons or the status information in the Reviewing Pane.
For example, if you have the Reviewing Pane open and Track Changes turned on, you may not be able to see the text that appears on the status bar below the Main document changes and comments bar in the Reviewing Pane.
The information that is typically displayed on this status bar is the type of change made, the author of the change, and the date and time of the change. Or, if markup balloons are visible, you may not be able to read the comment text in the markup balloon.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because the font color for the markup balloons and the
Reviewing Pane status bar does not change to contrast with the background color
of these items when you use either of the following settings:
- You select the Blue background, white text setting in Word. (To
locate this setting, click Options on the Tools menu, and then click the General tab.)
-or- - You set your Display settings to a high-contrast black color scheme. (To locate these color schemes, open the Display Control Panel, and then click the Appearance tab.)
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, set the font color for the Balloon Text style to something other than Automatic. To do this, follow these steps:
- On the Format menu, click Styles and Formatting.
- Under Pick a formatting to apply, right-click the Balloon Text entry, and then click Modify.
- If the Balloon Text style is not visible, display it. To do this, follow these steps:
- In the Show box, click Custom.
- In the Format Settings dialog box, under Styles to be visible, click to select the Balloon Text check box, and then click OK.
- In the Modify Style dialog box, click Format and then click Font.
- On the Font tab, change the Font Color box to a color other than Automatic and one that contrasts with the color of the balloon background or the Reviewing Pane status bar.
- Click OK to close the Font dialog box.
- Click OK to close the Modify Style dialog box.
NOTE: If you are using a high-contrast black color scheme, you must change the Comment Text style, in addition to the Balloon Text style.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
