ACC2002: Zero Values Are Not Allowed in Print Margin Settings in Page Setup (282364)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Access 2002

This article was previously published under Q282364
Novice: Requires knowledge of the user interface on single-user computers.

This article applies to a Microsoft Access database (.mdb) and to a Microsoft Access project (.adp).

SYMPTOMS

When you set any of the print margins of a form (such as left, right, top, or bottom) to 0 (zero) in a Microsoft Access database or project, Access may not accept that value, and may change the margin to a value greater than 0 without alerting the user.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur because the margin value is dependent on the printer driver and reflects the printer's non-printable area. The margin properties are changed by the operating system to the lowest acceptable value. Some printers may have no non-printable area, meaning they can print to the edge of the paper. In cases such as this, 0 values may be acceptable.

MORE INFORMATION

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

  1. Open the sample database Northwind.mdb or the sample project NorthwindCS.adp.
  2. In the Database window, click Forms, and then click New.
  3. In the New Form dialog box, click Design View, and then click OK.
  4. On the File menu, click Page Setup.
  5. In the Page Setup dialog box, set the left margin to 0.
  6. Press TAB to move to the Right margin box.

Note that the setting for the left margin is no longer 0, but has been set to the lowest acceptable value for the printer.
For more information about how to set print margins, click Microsoft Access Help on the Help menu, type set page setup options for printing in the Office Assistant or the Answer Wizard, and then click Search to view the topic.
