This article discusses the Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2000 beta program and its upgrade method.

During the ISA Server 2000 beta program, some public users received two different beta versions of ISA Server: Beta 3 and Release Candidate 1 (RC1).
If a user wants to upgrade either of the beta versions to the Released to Manufacturing version, the upgrade method is: upgrade Beta 3 to RC1, and then to the retail or Released to Manufacturing version.
When the Beta 3 version expired, the RC1 version became available publicly on the Microsoft Web site until the release of the Released to Manufacturing version.
Users who did not upgrade to RC1 from Beta 3 cannot upgrade Beta 3 directly to the Released to Manufacturing version. The only method available is to remove the Beta 3 version, and then install the retail or Released to Manufacturing version. This process, however, can cause your computer to lose all of its configuration settings. Also, it is not possible to successfully backup the Beta 3 configuration and restore it onto the installed Released to Manufacturing version.
