SYMPTOMS

The Indexing service version 3.0 on Windows 2000 loses file system change notification. When this occurs, it may result in incomplete index information.

CAUSE

The Indexing service loses file system change notification. The netmon trace demonstrates the STATUS_OBJECT_NAME_NOT_FOUND error that causes the Site Server Indexing service to fail to receive notification that documents need to be indexed.

RESOLUTION
