"Invalid Binding Handle" Error When You Try to View Computer Through IPSECMON (282170)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to select a computer by using the IPSec Monitor snap-in, you may receive either of the following error messages:
The following error occurred while contacting the server servername:
The binding handle is invalid.

-or-

Access denied.

CAUSE

You do not have the proper permissions to perform this function.

RESOLUTION

To manage remote IPSec policy for a computer, you must be a member of the Administrators group on the remote computer.

To add yourself to the Administrators group on the remote computer, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Computer Management.
  2. Expand Local Users and Groups.
  3. Click Groups.
  4. Double-click Administrators.
  5. Click Add.
  6. Click Look in, and then change to the domain or computer that holds the user account you want to add.
  7. In the Name Field, type the name of the user account, and then click Check Names to resolve.
  8. Click OK.
  9. Click OK again to close out of the Administrators Group properties page.
