XL2002: Unable to Reference a Cell by Dictating a Letter Followed by a Number (282152)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel 2002

This article was previously published under Q282152

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to reference a worksheet cell by dictating a letter followed by a number into the Reference box of the Go To dialog box in Microsoft Excel, the following behavior occurs:
  • The letter appears as expected, but the number that you dictate does not appear in numeric format.

For example, when you say "B," and then say the number "5," the following text appears:

    B five

  • If you then use the Forcenum command to attempt to force the spoken number to be displayed in numeric format, the Forcenum command itself is displayed, and the number appears in text format.

For example, when you say "B," and then say "Forcenum 5," text similar to the following appears

    B forcenum five

whereas you expect the spoken number to appear in numeric format.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
