The information in this article applies to:
This article was previously published under Q282147 SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to specify edit ranges to allow users access to parts of a protected worksheet, some of the ranges may unexpectedly have the same title.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if the ranges were renamed with a Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications subprocedure. No error message is generated when a range is renamed to the same title as an existing range by using the Visual Basic for Applications AllowEditRanges property.
WORKAROUND
To work around this issue, follow these steps:
- Start Excel.
- Open the workbook.
- If the sheet is protected, on the Tools menu, click Protection, click Unprotect Sheet, type the password, and then click OK.
- On the Tools menu, click Protection, and then click Allow Users to Edit Ranges.
- Select an edit range that has a duplicate title, click Modify, change the title, and then click OK. Repeat this step until all the edit ranges have unique titles.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
