The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Server SP1
This article was previously published under Q282109 SYMPTOMS When you do the following
- Install Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 1
(SP-1)
- Remove Microsoft FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions (FPSE) by
using the Microsoft Management Console while preserving
meta-information
- Reconfigure the FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions
the FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions may fail when you attempt
to attach from a remote computer with FrontPage. You receive the following
error message: Error message: Error 500 The
specified module could not be found. WORKAROUNDNOTE: Apply this workaround only if you experience the symptoms
described in the "Symptoms" section of this article. To work around
this issue, follow these steps:
- After you install Windows 2000 SP-1, open the Microsoft
Management Console, and select the virtual server that you want.
- Right-click the selected virtual server.
- Click to select All Tasks, and then click Remove Server Extensions (preserve meta-info).
- Close the Microsoft Management Console.
IMPORTANT: You must close the Microsoft Management Console after you remove
the server extensions in order to clear the cache. - Open the Microsoft Management Console.
- Click to select All Tasks, and click Configure Server Extensions.
This workaround needs to be applied only once during normal
operation. You should not experience the problem again, unless you do the
following:
- Remove the FrontPage Server Extensions by clicking Add and then clicking Remove Components.
- Add the FrontPage Server Extensions again.
- Remove the FrontPage Server Extensions again.
- Immediately reconfigure the FrontPage Server Extensions
through the Microsoft Management Console.
In this case as well, the workaround needs to be applied only
once. An indication that the server extensions are not configured
correctly is the following: The Action menu options indicate that the virtual server is extended, but
_vti_bin does not appear in the contents of the virtual server.
