Disconnected Sessions Retain the Original ClientName Variable (281981)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0 Terminal Server Edition
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
This article was previously published under Q281981 SYMPTOMS
When you reconnect to a disconnected Terminal Services session on a different computer from the one on which you originally established the connection, the clientname variable retains the computer name of the computer on which you created the original session.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because when you reconnect to a disconnected session, Terminal Services does not verify whether the client computer has changed.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, log off from the Terminal Services session, and then log back on so that you can re-establish the clientname variable from the new computer.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. MORE INFORMATION
Programs or scripts that rely on the clientname variable may not work if you establish a session on one computer, disconnect, then reconnect to that session from a different computer.
