WD2000: Starting Page Number Is Incorrect After You Delete Even-Page Section Break (281960)

After you insert and delete an even-page section break, the page numbers in your Word document may start at an incorrect page number. For example, your page numbers may start at 2.
CAUSE
This functionality is by design in Microsoft Word. When you delete a section break, the text that preceded the section break becomes part of the section that follows, and the text assumes the formatting of that section.
In this problem, after you delete the even-page section break, the previous section retains the even-page formatting. The result is that the page numbers start at 2.WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, do one of the following.
Method 1: Change the "Section Start" Setting- Move the insertion point to the page that contains the incorrect starting page number.
- On the File menu, click Page Setup.
- On the Layout tab, change the Section start box to Continuous.
- Change the Apply to box to the appropriate setting.
For example, if the starting page number is incorrect for the specific section of your Word document, change the Apply to box to This section. If the starting page number is incorrect for the entire document, change the Apply to box to Whole document. - Click OK to close the Page Setup dialog box.
Method 2: Insert a Continuous Section Break and Delete It- Press CTRL+END to go to the end of your Word document, or move the insertion point to where the deleted even-page section break was positioned.
- On the Insert menu, click Break.
- In the Break dialog box, click to select Continuous, and then click OK.
- Move the insertion point to the line of text that contains the continuous section break, and then press END.
- Press DELETE to delete the continuous section break.
