This article was previously published under Q281956 SYMPTOMS
On a computer that is running both Microsoft Windows 2000 and Microsoft Windows XP, you are unable to open Phone Dialer.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because one Dialer.exe program overwrites the other Dialer.exe program on a computer on which you have installed at least one instance of both Windows 2000 and Windows XP on the same system drive.
WARNING: Microsoft does not support loading more than one operating system in the same partition in a multiboot scenario, as erratic behavior can ensue.
RESOLUTION
To work around this behavior, do not install Windows XP onto the same system drive as Windows 2000.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. MORE INFORMATION
