This article was previously published under Q281866

SYMPTOMS

If you upgrade a computer from Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition (SE), or Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me) to Microsoft Windows XP and you have the IBM Xirlink XVP600 installed, the camera does not function, and is listed as a generic "USB PC Camera" in Device Manager.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because during the upgrade, Windows XP does not migrate specific drivers from the operating systems that are mentioned in the "Symptoms" section of the article.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, upgrade to the Windows XP driver for the IBM Xirlink XVP600:
  1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
  2. On the Hardware tab, click Device Manager, and then double-click unknown device.
  3. Right-click the generic USB PC Camera, and then click Uninstall.
  4. Close Device Manager.
  5. Install the latest Xirlink XVP600 driver that is available from the Xirlink Web site.
