This article was previously published under Q281858

SYMPTOMS

When you open Microsoft Clip Organizer for the first time, you cannot locate custom clip art that you imported into earlier versions of Microsoft Clip Gallery. You cannot find these clips either by browsing or by keyword search.

CAUSE

Clip Organizer does not recognize clips that have been imported from a custom clip category in Microsoft Clip Gallery.

Microsoft Clip Organizer is not a later version of Microsoft Clip Gallery, nor is it an extension of Clip Gallery. It is not backward compatible with Clip Gallery.

WORKAROUND

You must add the custom clip art to Clip Organizer.

How to Import a Group of Clips into Clip Organizer

  1. On the Insert menu, point to Picture, and then click Clip Art.
  2. Open Microsoft Clip Organizer by clicking Clip Organizer in the Insert Clip Art task pane.
  3. In Clip Organizer, point to Add Clips to Organizer on the File menu, and then click Automatically.
  4. Click Options.
  5. In the Auto Import Settings dialog box, wait for Clip Organizer to finish locating all clip art. Then, click to select the check boxes for each folder that contains images that you want to import.
  6. Click Catalog.

How to Import a Specific Clip into Clip Organizer

  1. On the Insert menu, point to Picture, and then click Clip Art.
  2. Open Microsoft Clip Organizer by clicking Clip Organizer in the Insert Clip Art task pane.
  3. In Clip Organizer, point to Add Clips to Organizer on the File menu, and then click On My Own.
  4. Navigate to the clip that you want to insert.
  5. Click Add.

How to Locate Imported Clips

Keywords and descriptions of clips from Clip Gallery 5.0 are not recognized or transferred to Clip Organizer when you import the clips.

To locate the newly imported clips in Clip Organizer, you must search for the clip by using either of the following criteria:
  • The name of the clip (for example, AN02542_.wmf)
  • The location of the clip on your hard disk (for example, My Documents)
After you find the clip, you can assign more specific keywords to the clip. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Right-click the clip, and then click Edit keywords on the shortcut menu.
  2. Type a keyword in the Keyword box, and then click Add.
  3. Repeat step 2 to add as many keywords as you like, and then click OK.
