This article describes how to remove Mobile Information Server from Microsoft Windows 2000 Active Directory.

This procedure should only be done if all computers that are running Mobile Information Server have been removed from the Windows 2000 forest. Use this procedure if the Mobile Information Server Uninstall program did not successfully remove these objects.

To remove Mobile Information Server configuration data from Active Directory, follow these steps.

NOTE: The schema update that is performed during the Forestprep operation cannot be undone.
  1. Run Setup from the Support\Tools folder on the Windows 2000 CD-ROM to install the Windows 2000 Support Tools program.
  2. Click Programs, click Windows 2000 Support Tools, click Tools, and then click ADSI Edit.
  3. Click to expand the Configuration container.
  4. Click to expand CN=Services.
  5. Delete the CN=Microsoft-Mobile-Information-Server object.
  6. If the server is running Mobile Information Server Carrier Edition, also delete the CN=SMSGW object.
This procedure removes all system information from Active Directory. However, users still have the Mobile Information Server attributes on their user accounts.
