Cluster Configuration Does Not Work and You Receive a "Networks Enumerator Was Not Found" Error Message (281799)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Datacenter Edition
  • Microsoft Windows Advanced Server, Limited Edition

SYMPTOMS

The analysis portion of the Add Cluster Computers wizard may not work, and you may receive the following error message:
Error Contacting Server
  • Error 0x80070057: The Parameter is incorrect
Finding common resources on nodes:
  • The network adapter %adapter%, connection name %NetworkConnectionName% is on the same network as another network adapter.
  • Cluster Networks enumerator was not found

CAUSE

This problem can occur if the Analysis wizard detects that there are multiple network adapters on the same logical network. The Cluster service uses only the first network adapter that it finds on a subnet, and ignores any additional adapters that it discovers on the same subnet.

This problem can occur if you are using IP addresses that are obtained from a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server, or if the server is unable to obtain an IP address from a DHCP server and autonet addresses were used for multiple network adapters.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, use only static IP addresses for both your public and private networks, and verify that the addresses that you are using are on different networks. In addition, verify that you have configured the private network correctly.
