SideWinder Force Feedback 2 Not Detected During Startup (281783)

When you connect a Microsoft SideWinder Force Feedback 2 game controller to a Universal Serial Bus (USB) port on your computer and then start your computer, the game controller may not be detected during startup.
If you open the Device Manager in Control Panel, Unknown Device may be displayed under the Universal Serial Bus controllers branch.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if the computer contains two Universal Host Controllers listed in Device Manager. For example, the Device Manager may contain the following list of devices:
- Universal Serial Bus Controllers
- Intel 82801BA/BAM USB Universal Host Controller 1
- Intel 82801BA/BAM USB Universal Host Controller 2
- USB Root Hub
- USB Root Hub
RESOLUTION
To work around this problem, use one of the following methods:
- Connect the game controller to the USB port after the computer is fully started.
- Connect the game controller to a USB hub.
NOTE: The USB hub does not need a separate power supply to work properly.
